Chess Western Province Awards 2023

What a great evening with all the nominated Coaches, Players , Arbiters, Administrators etc under one roof. I got awarded for my contribution to chess development at beginner and intermediate level with the rest of the other coaches.

Thanks to Chess Western Province for organising this remarkable event as it encourages everyone to continue making a difference. At the end of the day chess won!

Queen of Katwe

The movie is about a 10-year-old Ugandan girl and her struggles with poverty until she meets a missionary who teaches her how to play chess. She soon becomes a top player and her success in local competitions and tournaments provides her with an opportunity to escape from her life of poverty.

This is the day we met the real characters of the Movie Phiona Mutese and Robert Katende the Coach at Cape Town Symposium together with the Ukhanyo kids ... We were really all inspired and this day was a game changer.
